The freedom to roam...

Learner Driver Syllabus

The official syllabus for learning to drive is logically structured to enable you to learn systematically, building skills as you move through the syllabus. In the Drivers Record or “progress report” supplied by our driving school, you will find the syllabus divided into a series of subjects, which together cover all aspects of driving.

These subjects naturally fall into three groups, driving basics, more complex driving skills, and subjects specific to the Theory and Practical driving test. Therefore we have arranged the syllabus subjects into three units, and you can access more information by clicking on the sections below.

Unit 1

  • Cockpit checks.

  • Safety checks.

  • Mirrors-vision and use.

  • Signals

  • Moving away & stopping.

  • Controls & instruments

  • Anticipation & planning

  • Junctions. Roundabouts.

Unit 2

  • Use of Speed

  • Other traffic

  • Safe positioning

  • Pedestrian crossings

Unit 3

  • Reversing manoeuvres

  • Emergency stops

  • "Show and Tell" questions

  • Documents

© Freedom Driver Training: Pupils will receive hard copies of each of these pages in their New Starter Pack. These have proven to be very useful to all our pupils, as you can look at them on a daily basis to refresh your memory between lessons. This means more time driving and less time talking.
