Learn to Drive

Getting Started

Before you can begin to learn to drive in the UK you must hold a valid provisional driving licence, this can be obtained from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), the application form (Form D1) can be obtained from the post office or you can apply online at www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence.

Learning to Drive

We offer a full range of courses designed to suit drivers / learners at all levels,

Over the years we have come to recognise that lessons need to be specific for each client, therefore there is not a one size fits all approach to what we do, instead our sessions are based on our three key principles.

  • Every training session should be relaxed and calm.  You can't learn anything if your stressed and anxious.

  • There should be a clear understanding of what is happening in that session and how each objective can be achieved.

  • Every session should be productive.  A review will be completed at the end of each session to ensure that the learning outcomes have been achieved.

The course always starts with a meeting between the the trainer and the student, its a good way to brake the ice and to get to know each other.  This is vital for both the trainer and the client. The trainer can assess the needs of the client and ensure that both the vehicle and the lesson are set up in a way that best suits the student's needs.  It also helps the student to reduce the anxiety of that first drive, we all remember how we all felt on the first lesson.

The sessions then build focusing on the abilities of the client and deciding together how best progress can be made, this will then be reviewed each session and can include a parent or guardian if necessary.

All pupils will receive a free progress report at the end of each training session as well as our accelerated learning pack that will help you progress that little bit quicker.

All of our instructors are happy to provide pick up and drop off from pre-arranged* destinations such as college, work etc.

* Any pick drop point must be previously agreed with your driving instructor as they may have planned lessons around your collection point / destination.

Lesson length

The most common way to learn.

1:1 in car session

For the first 3-4 lessons with a new driver it is sometimes best to do several short lessons in a 10 day-14 day period if possible, the frequency is more important at the beginning and also to have a short lesson as there is a lot of new information and they are will be very nervous and stressed.

Then after the basics are mastered it is more beneficial to have a longer lesson to be more cost effective and to be able to execute a good driving lesson.

Suitable for all learners, refresher training and familiarisation training.
